CO2balance has extended its Improved Cook Stove Project into West Cameroon. It is a micro scale project that will lead to 10,000 tCO2e of emissions reductions.
CO2balance is working closely with a local NGO named A.C.R.E.S.T, leveraging carbon finance to subsidise the construction and sales programme of over 3300 efficient wood burning stoves in the cities of Mbouda and Dschanque. Within this region 90% of people purchase wood fuel, which has led to a dramatic decline in the nearby forests and the consistent price rises in the main fuel used for everyday cooking. The work of CO2balance will help reverse both of these negative trends and also kick start a local business opportunity, which we will help to expand as awareness of cleaner, more efficient cooking technology grows.
